Abbott Announces New Diabetes Drug Trial Results

Abbott announced a new partnership that places its Precision Oncology suite directly inside Flatiron Health’s cloud‑based OncoEMR platform, letting oncologists order and receive results without leaving their electronic workflow.

The connection lets clinicians choose from Abbott’s Oncotype DX Breast Recurrence Score®, OncoExTra®, Oncodetect® and Riskguard® assays, then track order status and view reports within the same screen they use for patient notes.

How the link works for community cancer centers

Through the built‑in ordering tool, a physician can select a single test or a panel, submit the request, and later see the laboratory’s findings appear as structured data in the chart. The workflow eliminates the need to log into a separate portal, which the companies say reduces paperwork and speeds decision‑making.

“We’re focused on making it easier for clinicians to access the right information at the right moment of care,” said Quincy Weatherspoon, vice‑president and general manager of Point of Care Solutions at Flatiron Health. “By integrating Abbott’s Precision Oncology portfolio directly into OncoEMR, we’re reducing friction in the workflow and helping providers move faster – from test ordering to treatment decisions.”

Brian Baranick, Abbott’s vice president for Precision Oncology, added that the move “removes a key barrier to accessing our portfolio at the point of care, helping accelerate treatment decisions and enabling more informed, personalized patient care.”

Flatiron’s national network reaches more than 1,600 community cancer care centers, where roughly 4,700 providers treat the bulk of U.S. oncology patients. Those sites now have immediate digital access to Abbott’s suite.

Broader implications for the oncology ecosystem

Abbott, a global health‑care firm with a portfolio spanning diagnostics, devices, nutrition and medicines, employs about 122,000 people in more than 160 countries. The company’s focus on life‑changing technologies includes a long‑standing presence in cancer diagnostics.

Flatiron, an affiliate of the Roche Group, leverages machine learning and real‑world evidence to turn routine clinical data into research insights. By embedding a major test catalog into its EMR, the health‑tech firm moves closer to its goal of a fully connected oncology ecosystem.
